Lightsaber combat brings together a multitude of fans from all over Spain to Mazarrón

Once upon a time in a Sports Pavilion far, far away… combatants practised the Jedi art of lightsaber combat.

This weekend, Mazarrón became the headquarters of the fascinating world of lightsaber combat, attracting fans from all over Spain. The La Cañadica Sports Pavilion was the setting where competitors, approximately a hundred per day, gathered to demonstrate their skills in this sport, which was born in Italy in 2006.

Juan Carlos López, Councilor for Citizen Participation, has highlighted the importance of events like this in activating local tourism, especially in a low season like January.

According to López, "This event, which is held once a year in different locations in the Region, has had a great tourist impact for Mazarrón, thanks to the high participation and geographical diversity of the attendees."

LudoSport, the art behind these combats, was created 16 years ago by three martial arts masters who are fans of Star Wars. This sport unites disciplines such as kendo, iaido, aikido, fencing and various Chinese martial arts, including wushu and wing chun.

During the event, several tournaments were held under the Atlas LudoSport Murcia circuit, where competitors stood out in different categories (see image gallery below).
