Click HereA two-part exhibition of the Jorquera collection of ceramics and photographs of women in the landscapes of Murcia is being held at the municipal libraries of Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón until November 27, having begun to celebrate Library Day on October 24 (the date on which the national library in Sarajevo was destroyed during the fighting in 1992).
One half of the exhibition features ceramics as an illustration of cultural diversity and includes pieces from all over the world. Starting from home, with the work of the Murcia brand Larios, the exhibits first of all take us on a journey around Spain (including Almería, where Salvador Jorquera practised as a doctor, Toledo, Ciudad Real, Salamanca and Zaragoza).
The voyage then travels further afield to Italy, Bulgaria, Mexico, Morocco, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama and Portugal.
The other half of the exhibition, “Enraizadas”, is devoted to the women and landscape of the Region of Murcia seen through the photographs of Mayca Montero Gil. Her images are accompanied by texts taken from authors such as Simone de Beauvoir and Virginia Woolf, and one of the photos highlights the now abandoned mines of Mazarrón.
The exhibitions in the library of Mazarrón can be visited on weekdays from 78.30 to 14.30 and from 15.30 to 21.30, while in the library of Puerto de Mazarrón opening hours are 8.30 to 15.00 and 17.00 to 19.30. Both libraries are closed on the local holiday of November 17.
