Pay in instalments for train tickets in Spain with Renfe

Customers in Spain can now pay for expensive train journeys in four interest-free instalments when booking online with Renfe, provided the entire purchase totals 150 euros or more.

Spain’s state rail operator Renfe has teamed up with digital bank WiZink, Aplazame, to incorporate this new flexible payment system which aims at improving overall customer experience.

“Travellers arrive at their destination with all the comfort and the best travel experience, quickly and safely, being able to combine several plans without cost being an impediment," Renfe said in a statement this week.

The process, the company explained, is quick and easy for passengers and offers a high level of security. To pay for a ticket in instalments, customers simply need to choose the new ‘Card/Pay in 4 months without interest’ option.

In the payment gateway, they must then select the 'Aplazame' option from 'Other payment methods,' after which they will be prompted to enter an email address, identity document and bank card details.

This payment method, both companies insist, will benefit the thousands of customers who buy their tickets daily through the website. Renfe has invested 164 million euros to update and modernise its ticket sales and reservation system, which includes the web sales page, app, ticket offices, agencies and self-sales machines, as well as customer access systems such as online check-in and the Renfe Club Room.
