Airline changes: new routes launched and axed in Spain
Ryanair, Iberia, Delta and more adjust timetables in Spain with both losses and exciting new destinations

The world of air travel never stands still for very long. Airlines regularly review their timetables, opening new routes, axing unprofitable ones and making adjustments to reflect demand, costs and even international events.
In Spain, the past few weeks have seen a wave of changes, from long-standing routes being cut to new destinations being added to the map.
Ryanair and its big cuts
Budget carrier Ryanair has announced a raft of suspensions that will come into effect from October. The airline will halt all operations at Vigo, where it previously ran flights to London, and at Tenerife North, which had connections to Alicante, Madrid, Palma, Sevilla, Valencia, Barcelona and Santiago.
From Santiago, services to Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Gran Canaria, Palma de Mallorca and Zaragoza will be dropped in October, while next summer the cuts will extend to Brussels, Dublin, Fuerteventura, Ibiza, Menorca and Memmingen.
Other losses include flights from Zaragoza to Palma, Paris and Fez, and from Santander to Rome, Milan, Vienna and Paris. Meanwhile, the Canary Islands airports of Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria will also see reductions.
Wizz Air says goodbye Vienna, hello Bratislava
The closure of Wizz Air’s base in Vienna is having knock-on effects across Europe and four routes to Spain are among the casualties. From October 26, flights between Vienna and Bilbao will end, while services to Barcelona, Malaga and Tenerife will cease from March 15, 2026.
At the same time, Wizz Air is adding a new route connecting Alicante Airport and Bratislava. The service will start on December 15, 2025, operating three times per week in both directions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Vueling, debuting in Córdoba
Vueling has entered new territory with the launch of flights between Barcelona and Córdoba. The route operates twice a week, with departures on Thursdays and Sundays in both directions. From Córdoba, flights leave at 3.25pm on Thursdays and 2.20pm on Sundays, while from Barcelona they depart at 1.10pm on Thursdays and 12.05pm on Sundays.
Turkish Airlines arrives in Sevilla
A major new international connection has been added to Sevilla’s flight schedule. Turkish Airlines has begun operating daily flights between Sevilla and Istanbul, using an Airbus A321.
Delta takes us to Boston
From May 17, 2026, Delta will launch a daily direct service between Madrid and Boston. The route will be operated on an Airbus A330-900neo, with flights scheduled every day of the week.
Iberia adds three new routes
Iberia is expanding its long-haul network this winter. From October 26, the airline will offer four weekly flights between Madrid and Orlando, operated by Airbus A330 aircraft. Recife will join the schedule from December 13 with three weekly services, followed by Fortaleza on January 19, also with three weekly flights. Both Brazilian destinations will be served with the Airbus A321XLR.
Air Europa and Geneva
Air Europa is strengthening its Swiss operations from June 19, 2026. A new Madrid–Geneva route will see two daily flights operated by Boeing 737-800s. Departures from Madrid are set for 7.55am and 4.40pm, while flights from Geneva will take off at 10.50am and 7.35pm.
Korean Air lands in Malaga
Korean Air is trialling operations to Malaga with a series of four round-trip charter flights linking the Costa del Sol with Seoul. Running through October and early November, the flights are part of a package marketed by tour operator Hanjin Travel and will be operated with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
