Lidl invests €25 million opening five new stores in September, creating over 40 jobs

New modern and spacious stores bring Lidl closer to Spanish customers

Lidl is continuing its steady and sustainable growth across Spain with the opening of five new stores this September, backed by an investment of nearly €25 million and the creation of more than 40 permanent jobs. These openings form part of the supermarket chain’s strategy to be ever closer to Spanish consumers by increasing its reach with modern, efficient outlets designed to meet today’s shopping needs.

The new stores will be in Teruel (Aragon), Atarfe (Andalucia), Vic and Manresa (Catalonia), and Aranjuez (Madrid). Four stores are reopening after undergoing modernisation and expansion, while Teruel sees Lidl’s fresh footprint with a brand-new branch. Together, these stores add more than 2,500 square metres of retail space to Lidl’s network, which already totals over 700 stores nationwide.

Customers can expect Lidl’s familiar wide range of products, from fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, and freshly baked bread to chilled goods, packaged foods, drinks, and personal care items. There’s also an increasing variety of regional products alongside exclusive bazaar items and themed international food weeks.

These openings support Lidl’s sustainable expansion plan for 2025, which includes launching around 50 new stores by February 2026. Roughly 40 will be new supermarkets while the rest are modernisations, with efforts also focused on expanding logistics, such as the recent warehouse in Constantí and a major new logistics centre about to open in Martorell.

Lidl’s impact across Spain extends beyond retail. It contributes more than €8.6 billion annually to the country’s GDP and supports over 180,000 jobs directly and indirectly, with significant effects in provinces facing economic challenges. The company places a strong emphasis on national and regional suppliers, purchasing over €7.4 billion in products yearly.

As the third-largest food retailer in Spain, Lidl operates more than 700 stores and employs over 18,500 people, working closely with around 900 local suppliers. The supermarket chain remains dedicated to quality, affordability, sustainability, and social commitment in its growing Spanish presence.
