First phase of Los Alcázares cycle lane up and running

Improved safety and convenience for both cyclists and pedestrians on the seafront of the Mar Menor

Just two months after work began on the new cycle lane along the seafront in Los Alcázares the first 490-metre phase has been completed, running between the beach of La Hita and Avenida Radiobaliza Óscar, contributing to the safety of both cyclists and pedestrians who use the route on a daily basis as they make their way along the shore of the Mar Menor.

The new lane is two metres wide and between the new paved surface and the existing path the projects has included the positioning of native plant species, helping to separate one from the other. Another feature is a bicycle repair facility, with bicycle racks planned in the near future.

Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera commented on 22nd April, while inspecting the new lane, that the idea is to make the Paseo Marítimo, one of the locations most usually associated with Los Alcázares, a place for safe cycling and walking while continuing to promote sustainable mobility in the municipality, while underlining that the cost of this facility (approximately 205,000 euros) has been financed using EU Next Generation funds.

Meanwhile, Councillor María José Díaz Aragón (Beaches, Tourism and EU Funds) added that the seafront is now becoming not only safer but more visually attractive.

Work on the second phase of the new cycle lane, another 560 metres between Avenida Radiobaliza Óscar and Avenida Pintor Vitorio Nicolás, is already under way.
