August 25 to 28 Annual fiestas in the Sierra Espuña village of El Berro
The fiestas in the Alhama village are held in honour of the Virgen de los Dolores
The village of El Berro, in the foothills of Sierra Espuña, is 14 kilometres north-west of Alhama de Murcia and although it is home to only around 200 permanent residents, the population swells considerably during the summer months due to the importance of rural tourism in the area.
This is further boosted by the campsite, and the increased population enjoys the annual fiestas every year at the end of August, held in honour of the patron of El Berro, the Virgen de los Dolores.
The program for the 2023 fiestas includes the following:
Starting August 19
Sports tournaments at the Campo de la Chota and Playstation competitions in the Casa de la Cultura.
Thursday August 24
18.30: Gymkhana and children’s games in the Plaza Mayor
20.00: Dance masterclass in the Plaza Mayor, followed by music.
Friday August 25
18.00: All are welcome to take part in the “Eulalia Sánchez Cava” photography exhibition in the Casa de la Cultura: send your photos to comisionfiestaselberro23@gmail.com.
18.15: The official start of the 2023 Fiestas.
18.30: Carrera de Cintas, all kinds of vehicle can take part in this fun event in the Plaza Mayor.
20.30: Children’s entertainment in the car park outside the campsite.
21.00: Barbecue for all in the car park outside the campsite.
23.15: Live music from Duetto, followed at 1.30 by FYV Band.
Saturday August 26
10.00: Firecrackers to wake everyone up for the events of the day!
10.30: Children’s play area in the car park outside the campsite.
11.30: Guided visits to an exhibition of mountain flora in the car park outside the campsite.
13.45: Charity paella, donations to the Princesa Rett association in the car park outside the campsite.

Sunday August 27

21.00: Procession with music from the Ateneo Músico Cultural Maestro José Antonio Ayala.
23.15: Live music from Maqueda, followed at 1.30 by Guarida.
Monday August 28

Oficina de Turismo de Alhama de Murcia
Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.
The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.
The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.
The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
