Two migrant boats with 87 people on board intercepted off Cartagena
Twelve minors were among those on board both vessels stopped by the Guardia Civil

The Guardia Civil intercepted two boats carrying a total of 87 migrants off the coast of the Region of Murcia on Monday October 5, with one stopped at El Gorguel in Cartagena and the other at Portmán.
The first vessel had 44 people on board, made up of 39 adult men and five minors. The second carried 43, including 34 adult men, two women and seven minors, which means 12 minors reached the coast between the two boats.
Everyone was taken to Cartagena, where the Red Cross attended to them and certified they were in good health, before they were handed over to the National Police so the return procedures could begin.
The boats are the latest to arrive as part of a wave of irregular migrants landing on the Region's coast in recent months.
The previous interceptions took place on Thursday October 1, when two boats carrying 38 and 45 people tried to reach the Region's shores in the morning. Territorial patrols from El Algar and Cabo de Palos were sent to the landing point at Cala Reona in Cartagena and stopped both vessels, which had already been picked up by the SIVE coastal surveillance system.
