New measures underway to stop caravans parking on Aguilas beaches
Locals are fed up of motorhomes parking and camping on the municipality’s beautiful beaches
Águilas town hall is awaiting authorisation to be able to install a special kind of overhead limiter, something akin to the one pictured (above), that will stop caravans and motorhomes from driving onto the local beaches of Playa de la Carolina, Playa de la Higuerica and Playa del Arroz.
It comes in response to complaints from residents living in Águilas who have repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction at the fact that caravans park right on the seafront of some of the beaches of La Carolina and La Higuerica and also on the beach of El Arroz.
Last November, the Ayuntamiento requested authorisation for the installation of narrow gauges in the natural area of Cuatro Calas that would mean large vehicles like caravans would be physically unable to fit through a get onto the beaches.
The application, which was sent to both the State Coastal Demarcation and the Directorate-General for the Environment of the Region of Murcia and for which no reply has yet been received, seeks authorisation to install structures with a gauge of 2.10 metres in height which will allow cars to park, but not those vehicles which are higher than this limit.
