Dust alert issued in Lorca due to incoming African air mass
The air quality throughout Lorca could be reduced on Tuesday August 5
The Councillor for the Environment in Lorca, María Hernández, has warned of a possible increase in PM10 particle levels this Tuesday August 5, due to the arrival of an African air mass over the southeast of Spain.
According to data from the Region of Murcia experts, surface dust concentrations could range between 10 and 100 micrograms per cubic metre. These estimates are based on the SKIRON model and could cause a spike in air pollution levels recorded by the regional Air Quality Network.
The councillor issued a special warning for people with respiratory conditions and those who plan to be active outdoors. The use of FFP2 masks is advised as a precaution.
Residents are also encouraged to avoid travelling on main roads during peak dust hours and to use public transport when possible.
Additional recommendations include limiting the use of air conditioning to reduce energy consumption, carpooling and avoiding strenuous outdoor exercise. If necessary, outings should be brief and low in intensity.
