Thief violently robs Malaga shopkeeper – then comes back for his wallet

After attacking the shopkeeper, the robber realised he'd left behind the one thing that could get him caught

A thief who seriously injured a shopkeeper during a robbery in Málaga’s Churriana district made a baffling decision – returning to the scene of the crime to retrieve his lost wallet.

The incident took place at around 8.30pm on Sunday March 16 at a small grocery store run by a Chinese couple on Avenida de Torremolinos. The shopkeeper was alone inside when the robber entered, wielding what police sources described as a blunt object, possibly a stick or iron bar.

A struggle broke out between the two, during which the attacker struck the victim hard on the head and caused serious injuries to his arm. The thief then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of stolen cash, where an accomplice was waiting outside to assist in the getaway.

However, in his rush to escape, the robber made a critical mistake – he lost his wallet inside the shop, complete with his ID. Realising his blunder, he made the astonishing decision to go back for it.

The injured shopkeeper had already found the wallet but, still recovering from the violent attack, didn’t resist when the thief returned to claim it. Mere minutes later, emergency services and police arrived at the scene. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remained under observation on Monday while doctors assessed the extent of his head trauma.

Local residents in Churriana have expressed concern over rising crime in the area and hope for the shopkeeper’s swift recovery. Meanwhile, despite his moment of remarkable carelessness, the robber remains at large.
