Jumilla also offers many bodegas which can be visited on the same day
Route name: Senderismo por la Sierra de Santa Ana.
Although Jumilla is best known for its many bodegas and wine production, the municipality also has an interesting history and attractive old quarter with many historical buildings.
This visit however, focuses on one of the most important buildings lying outside of the town itself, the Franciscan Convent of Santa Ana which is located high above the town and is the subject of the annual Romería which takes place in Jumilla (a 6km drive from the centre of Jumilla, so own transport is required for this tour).
This route begins with a brief visit to the convent chapel and museum, before enjoying a 7km walk in the area around the convent, visiting the Fuente de la Jarra and the Fuente de la Buitrera.
The current building in which the convent is housed dates from the 16th century, when it was built by monks of the barefoot Franciscan Order called Ordo Fratrum Minorum, and is known to have been consecrated as a place of worship in 1573. One of the most prized possessions of the monastery is the figure of “Cristo Amarrado a la Columna” (Christ Tied to the Column) by the master of Murcian religious sculpture Francisco Salzillo, acquired in 1755 and which is still carried down into the town in the annual romería.
The visit is free of charge, although as this is a religious establishment visitors are invited to make a donation to the Monastery.

The tour begins at 10:00 from the atrium of the convent.
