Stowaway mouse grounds flight to Costa del Sol
A passenger aboard the flight to Malaga found the rodent in her food
In a truly bizarre airline incident, a tiny mouse managed to sneak onto a Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight from Oslo to Malaga last week, forcing the plane to make an unexpected pit stop in Denmark.
It's not every day that a furry little friend gets to dictate the flight plan, but this mouse was determined to get its paws on some in-flight snacks.
According to Øystein Schmidt, a SAS spokesperson, the mouse was discovered in a passenger's food and, following protocol, the plane made an emergency landing in Copenhagen for a thorough inspection.
“This happens very rarely,” he hastened to add.
All in all, passengers aboard the SAS flight on Wednesday September 18 appeared to take the disruption very well.
“Believe it or not, a lady next to me... opened her food and a mouse jumped out,” said one of the passengers on that flight, Jarle Borrestad, on his Facebook page.
Airlines take the presence of rodents on planes very seriously, as mice and rats are known to chew through electrical wiring, which could have devastating consequences.
The passengers were moved to a different plane to resume their flight to the Costa del Sol. Once the little stowaway was taken care of, the airline said it was taking measures to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again, which naturally includes a stern conversation with the company supplying the in-flight food.
