Spanish tortilla de patatas recalled from supermarkets due to health scare

The Spanish supermarket chain Ahorramas has published a statement on its website announcing the withdrawal, for health reasons, of Alipende potato omelettes (including those of the white label Palacios), both the variety with and without onion.

The reasons for this recall are still unknown, but there seems to be some problem with isolated defective batches that would have compromised the good condition of the food.

Most Ahorramas stores are located in the autonomous communities of Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha.

This withdrawal has been taken “as a precaution” since one particular consumer of this product reported having begun to feel unwell after eating this brand of Spanish omelette.

The company is studying whether it is an anomaly with this specific batch or if it could be attributable to a specific problem with the customer who reported feeling unwell.

Anyone who has already bought this tortilla and returns it will be assured of a full refund.

For the moment, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has not issued any alert about these tortillas. In all likelihood, they will be available to buy again shortly.
