Ryanair launches new Venice route from Alicante to rival Wizz Air
Costa Blanca travellers will have more options than ever to reach the city of canals from this autumn

Ryanair has just announced that it will launch a new route between Alicante-Elche Airport and Venice Marco Polo Airport starting in September, just days after Wizz Air made the same announcement.
Until now, Ryanair's only connection to the Venice area from Alicante was to Treviso Airport, which is considerably further from the city centre than Marco Polo. So for anyone who's done that journey and wondered why they seemed to be landing in the middle of nowhere, this new route should be welcome news.
Tickets are already on sale through Ryanair's website, with the first flight scheduled for Tuesday September 1 this year. The route will run four times a week during September, dropping to three weekly flights in October.
As for what happens after that, it's not yet clear. Ryanair hasn't published its schedule for November to March 2027, so whether the route continues through the quieter winter months remains to be seen.
But for the time being, on Tuesdays, the Alicante departure is at 3pm, arriving in Venice just after 5pm, with the return leaving Venice at 6.15pm and landing back on the Costa Blanca roughly two hours later.
Wednesday flights leave Alicante at 6am, arriving at 8.45am, with the return at 10am. Sunday departures are at 8.10pm, arriving before 10.30pm, with the Venice return at 10.50pm.
During September only, there's also a Saturday service leaving Alicante at 1.10pm, arriving before 3.30pm, with the return departing Venice at 3.50pm.
This isn't the first time Ryanair has pulled this move. When Wizz Air announced a new route to Bratislava before last winter, Ryanair followed suit and launched its own version of the same connection. That route performed well enough that Ryanair has since extended it into the summer season too, which perhaps tells you something about how confident they are in this latest Venice gamble.
It all points to growing competition for the Italian market out of Alicante-Elche, where passenger numbers to Italy rose by 7.5% in 2025, reaching 669,000. Following this demand, Murcia's Corvera Airport will also offer direct flights to Venice from June 28, operated by Volotea, giving those in the south of the country another option for reaching the city of canals.
