The last weekend of 2022 is upon us and before the ball drops at midnight on December 31, many people will need to run out for a few last minute items. Likewise, after the excitement dies down, it might be time to re-stock the fridge next week.

As with all holidays, most of the supermarkets in Spain will alter their opening hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, so we’ve compiled a list of the business hours of all the most popular stores.

Mercadona

December 31 (New Year’s Eve): all Mercadona supermarkets will open from 9am to 7pm.
January 1 (New Year’s Day) and 6 (Three Kings): supermarkets will remain closed.
January 2: normal business hours of 9am to 9.30pm will apply.

Lidl

December 31: all stores open from 9am to 7pm.
January 1 and 6: all stores close.
January 2: All stores open at normal hours.

Carrefour

In general, Carrefour closes at 7pm on New Year’s Eve while on January 1 and 6, all stores remain closed nationwide. However, this can vary from region to region, so to be sure it’s best to check on the supermarket’s website.

DIA

All DIA supermarkets close completely on January 1 and 6, but there are also some regions where the store reduces its opening hours or remains shut altogether on New Year’s Eve.

Alcampo

December 31 : most of the stores will open from 8.30am to 8pm.
January 1 and 6: all supermarkets close.

Eroski

All Eroski supermarkets close on New Year’s Day and January 6 but apart from these dates, the opening hours of each store vary enormously, even within the same city.

Many supermarkets open on New Year's Eve until late afternoon, so it’s best to check their website.

Aldi

All Aldi shops will remain closed on January 1 and 6 but on New Year’s Eve, many of the outlets open until 3pm, some as later as 7pm or 7.30.
