The capital city of the Region of Murcia is hoping to become one of the venues included in the Spanish bid to host the 2030 World Cup. Spain is launching a joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and Ukraine, and Murcia city wants a piece of the action.

 

Local Councillor for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Pedro García Rex, along with the Director General of Sports, Francisco Sánchez, and officials from the Murcia Football Federation and Real Murcia, have taken part in a working meeting organised by the Royal Spanish Football Federation which included a presentation of the work teams and the dynamics to be developed in the coming weeks to present the candidate venues and the requirements that need to be met to include Murcia along with more likely match venues like Madrid and Barcelona.

 

“Murcia is facing a unique opportunity to project itself on an international level in one of the most important sporting events,” he said. “Our teamwork will surely bear fruit. Murcia deserves to host the 2030 Spanish candidature and we are going to do everything we can to achieve this goal.”

 

During the meeting, the FIFA timetable for determining the bid to host the 2030 World Cup was put forward, which will begin in June 2023 with the regulatory approval and the requirements of the bidding process. This will be followed by a preparation phase in July and August 2023; the preparation of the bid dossier from September 2023 to April 2024; and the evaluation of the bids by FIFA from May to September 2024, when a final decision will be made on who will host the event.

 

The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by three North American countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
