The Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, has sent formal letters to the president of Adif and to the general director of Railway Infrastructures requesting a semi-direct bus line between the municipality of Águilas and Lorca to offset the loss of public transport caused by the closure of the Cercanías line in Murcia.
Although Adif has already established several new bus routes to replace the train lines, the Mayor insists that it is necessary to provide a faster bus link to Lorca, as the Águilas-Lorca train was one of the most frequented by travellers on a daily basis. She proposes a direct route, with only one additional stop in Pulpí.
Ms Moreno has also reiterated that the interruption in normal train lines is only temporary, not permanent, and that the end result is going to be a much faster and safer train service in the municipality.
