June 17 Free guided archaeological tour in Puerto de Mazarron

The visit includes the Roman fish salting factory and other archaeological remains discovered in and around Mazarrón

The 14th edition of the European Archaeology Days will take place from over the weekend of June 16 to 18, and various special events are being held in and around Mazarrón to mark the occasion and highlight the wealth of findings from the distant past within the municipality.

One of these is a special open free door of the local archaeological museum in Puerto de Mazarrón, which includes the remains of the former Roman fish salting factory, and nearby sites of interest. The tour on Saturday June 17 begins at 11.30 and lasts approximately an hour, including chances to appreciate the wealth of artifacts left behind in Mazarrón by past civilizations – not only the Romans, but also the Phoenicians centuries before them.

Children are welcome but it is the responsibility of parents or guardians to ensure that they behave appropriately throughout, and all walkers are strongly advised to bring drinking water, suncream and adequate footwear as there is some walking involved.

Prior registration is required and is available online here, with participants asked to supply ID or passport number and indicate if any members of the group are under 18.
