Overseas travellers in the Region recorded an average stay of 12.52 days in February, almost double the national average

The Region of Murcia proved to be the most attractive destination for international tourists looking for a 'long stay' in Spain in February, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The average length of stay for overseas travellers visiting the Region was 12.52 days, almost double the national average of 7.55 days.

A total of 41,431 foreign tourists arrived in February, compared to 35,504 during the same period in 2022, an increase of 16.7%, and they spent a whopping 43.7 million euros.

Data from the INE's Egatur study shows that the average daily expenditure of foreign tourists in the Region two moths ago reached 84.37 euros, and during the total period of their average stay, they spent 1,056.39 euros.

In the first two months of 2023, the average stay was 13.78 days, far longer than the national average of 8.02 days. And the expenditure during the months of January and February totalled 110.9 million euros, up on the 93.1 million spent by overseas holidaymakers in the same period in 2022.

In terms of origin, France proved to be the biggest international market, with 23,711 tourists - an increase of 72.3% compared to 2019 - accounting for 23.7% of the total.

The United Kingdom was the second largest market, with 20,022 tourists, accounting for 20% of the total, and the Nordic countries came in third place, with 9,327 tourists, representing a share of 9.3%.
