The Murcia municipality's animal welfare department is staging a doggy walk with contest and obedience masterclass

A fun day for all the family, including the four-legged furry members, is promised in Los Alcázares next month, with the added benefit of raising awareness and much-needed funds for local animal shelters and associations.

Organised by the town's Animal Welfare Department, the Doggy Day in Plaza Del Espejo kicks off at 10am on November 21 with a 'socialisation walk' followed by a pooch photo opportunity.

At 11am, there will be a doggy contest and animal shelter and artisans' market.

Various doggy-related exhibitions will be unveiled at 11.30am, and attendees will be given a free gift and micro-chip for their pets.

Meanwhile, anybody with a lively or unruly furry friend won't want to miss an obedience masterclass at 1.30pm.

"This is a day to enjoy with our best friends. Make a note in your diary and share it with your friends, the more the merrier, and the more money we will raise for local animal shelters," said Los Alcázares Town Hall.

Registration to take part can be done on the day, with a fee of two euros for each activity, all of which will be donated to worthy local animal causes.
