ARCHIVED - Denia begins swapping 6,000 lights for LED alternatives and sharing electricity bill saving tips
Free energy-saving consultations are available to the public at a 'caravan of light' which will be located in Denia until March 24
In a bid to become more energy efficient, Denia has this week begun renovating its complete street and sport facility lighting system and has located a mobile information caravan in the centre of the town to share tips on how to make savings on household electricity bills.
SITELEC Global Servicios y Obras, the concessionary company for energy services and maintenance of the outdoor public lighting installations, traffic lights and sports facilities in Denia, has initially started replacing public lighting in the Montgó area with LED alternatives
The replacement of the Montgó solar street lights will be carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 21 and 22), with the focus then shifting to the Bassetes area on Thursday and Friday (March 23 and 24).
The aim is to switch from sodium halogen lamps to LEDs to improve economic efficiency and sustainability, which will affect a total of 5,569 streetlights and 341 lights in municipal sports facilities.
Full details of the Town hall's efforts will be explained by municipal representatives at the 'Caravana de la luz', located on the site of the old ambulatory in Calle Marqués de Campo.
Tips on how to cut household electricity bills will also be shared at the mobile unit free of charge and without an appointment at the following times:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm. and
Friday from 10am to 2pm.
According to Denia Council, the contract with the energy company, awarded for a period of 15 years, will reduce municipal electricity consumption by some 2,455,000 kilowatts/hour, and reduce emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by 635 tonnes.
"The aim is to reduce light pollution, while at the same time reinforcing lighting at points where it is necessary for safety and accessibility reasons," added the Town Hall.
In addition, 197 control panels will be upgraded by installing remote management systems to optimise time and resources; this will result in more direct control of the control panels, which will mean a quicker response to emergencies or specific needs related to the town's lighting.
