Decomposed body uncovered in Orihuela Costa

The grim discovery of a decomposing body has sent shock waves through the close-knit community of Lomas de Cabo Roig in Alicante’s Orihuela Costa. The human remains were found on Friday September 15 when workers repairing irrigation pipes stumbled upon the body.

The corpse was located in a field beside a farm, close to the Orihuela Costa Sewage Plant. Officers of the Guardia Civil immediately cordoned off the scene and a forensic team began an examination of the area.

According to official sources, the body is that of a young man dressed in beach attire, but a positive identification has yet to be made. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the experts believe the remains could have been hidden for several months, but a post-mortem will need to be carried out to establish the exact date and cause of death.

The man’s body has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine.
