August 31 to September 11 Fixed prices at the Huerto open-air restaurants in Murcia

Simple traditional meals in a friendly atmosphere in the gardens of the centre of Murcia

One of the most popular facets of the Feria de Murcia festivities, which are taking place this year in the city of Murcia from August 31 to September 12, is the open-air “huerto” restaurants which are installed for the duration of the celebrations in the Jardines del Malecón, alongside the River Segura in the city centre.

These restaurants are run by “peñas” who maintain the traditions of celebrating in Murcia, partly through musical and dance performances but also through these “huertos” and the “barracas” which are set up in parks and gardens throughout the city during the Fiestas de Primavera, in the week following Easter. In this way they earn funds to support their activities throughout the year.

During the Feria the huertos open in the evening of 31^st August and remain in place until the evening of 11^th September. Alongside are other areas where visitors can taste some of the fine wines and foodstuffs made in the Region, as well as displays of traditional arts and crafts.

However, there is no price war among the different “huertos” as fixed price lists are established for the traditional fare on offer; the peñas present this year are those of La Virgen de la Salud, La Lebrilla, Aires de Murcia, Hermandad del Rocío, Alhama, Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, Virgen de las Lágrimas, Salzillo, Vega del Segura, San Basilio, Virgen de la Vega, Virgen de los Peligros, Museo de la Huerta and Certamen de Tunas.
