In a significant final step of his seventh tax reduction package, Andalucía’s President Juanma Moreno has announced the removal of the income cap on the €200 personal income tax deduction per child.

 

Previously, this deduction was limited to families earning under €30,000 jointly or €25,000 individually, but from January 1 2025, the deduction will be available to all families regardless of income.

 

This change will also extend to adopted and foster children, benefiting around 13,000 additional families, including 2,500 foster families. The €200 deduction even doubles to €400 for those living in municipalities at risk of depopulation.

 

This measure aims to help tackle Andalucía’s declining birth rates, an urgent issue as seven of the region’s eight provinces are experiencing more deaths than births. Moreno emphasised, "We must contribute to making it easier for people to have a child, limiting its economic impact" - a statement that aims to highlight the human side behind the financial relief.

 

This new universal child deduction complements other targeted tax breaks unveiled recently as part of the 2026 regional budget.

 

Andalusians with celiac disease, or those with affected family members, will benefit from a €100 income tax deduction, recognising the extra costs imposed by gluten-free diets. This relief is estimated to aid about 30,000 taxpayers and reflects a commitment to easing everyday burdens, as gluten-free products can cost up to four times more than regular ones.

 

Another popular deduction encourages healthier lifestyles by offering a 15% refund on gym memberships and sports club fees, capped at €100 per taxpayer. This initiative intends to combat Andalucía’s high rates of childhood obesity and improve general wellbeing, with around 785,000 residents expected to benefit.

 

And pet owners are not forgotten. For the first time, veterinary expenses will be deductible, acknowledging the real costs of animal care for families, whether for pets recently purchased, adopted, or service dogs, with deductions available throughout the animal’s lifetime.

 

Together, these tax cuts amount to an estimated €61.3 million injection of economic relief for Andalusian families and individuals.

 

These tax breaks build on nearly seven years of ongoing cuts since Moreno’s administration began in 2019, resulting in a savings of close to one billion euros for Andalucía’s taxpayers, all while public revenues have continued to rise thanks to economic growth and increased compliance.

 

For families and individuals in Andalucía, this latest tax policy marks a clear step towards more inclusive financial support and reflects the region’s position as one of Spain’s most tax-friendly communities.
