ARCHIVED - 4 Spanish villages that will pay expats to live there
Spain is keen to entice foreigners to move to some of its most stunning rural villages

For so many people, the dream is to relocate to sunny Spain to while away the days sipping Sangria on a golden beach or meandering through the lush mountains, but what if someone actually wanted to pay you to realise your Spanish ambition?
Believe it or not, there are several idyllic alcoves in Spain that are so keen to attract expats, they are willing to pay handsomely for the privilege. These village hideaways are hoping to entice Britons and other foreigners to repopulate the areas as younger residents move to the bigg cities, and many offer to cover relocation costs and even an ongoing ‘salary.’
1. Ponga, Asturias
Situated in northern Spain is the beautiful town of Ponga, home to an incredible Natural Park and just a stone’s throw away from the Los Beyos gorge.
If you fancy making the move to a rural retreat, the Asturian government offers 3,000 euros to couples who settle there permanently and another three grand for each baby born in the village.
2. Rubia, Galicia
Another northern gem, Rubia boasts an extremely low cost of living and a fantastic school system. Keen to attract families with young children in particular, the local government is prepared to offer between 100 and 150 euros per month to move there.
3. Griegos, Aragon
Located in the eastern province of Teruel, the tiny Griegos has a population of just 132 and it is also banking on young expat families to keep the local school open. If you’d like to enjoy this little slice of heaven, you can try it out with a guaranteed job and free rent for three months if you decide to stay.
After that, the average home costs just 225 euros per month.
4. A Xesta, Pontevedra
Northern Galicia makes the list again with coastal A Xesta, a village with just 252 residents in the beautiful province of Pontevedra. Expats won’t be paid a salary to move here but they can certainly live on a shoestring with rents costing just 100 euros per month.
