Works contract awarded for new medical centre in La Azohia

The new consultorio will be located right next door to the pharmacy in La Azohía

Little by little the plans to ensure that residents of La Azohía have a new medical centre at their disposal are making progress, with the works contract having now been awarded by the Town Hall of Cartagena to the company Jumabeda for precisely 141,596 euros.

The new premises will be conveniently located right next to the chemist’s of La Azohía in the parade of commercial premises at the entrance to the village, un a unit which previously belonged to the Restaurante Acuario.

Not since before the Covid pandemic has La Azohía had its own medical centre, the previous one alongside the church having never been reopened after coronavirus restrictions were lifted. In the meantime residents of the village have been redirected to Isla Plana or even, in the summer of 2023, to Puerto de Mazarrón.

The new “consultorio” will occupy an area of 280 square metres and the work to be carried out is practically a complete overhaul, including new doors and windows, the installation of heating and air conditioning and the redistribution of indoor space to create the different rooms needed.

Unfortunately, a Town Hall press release makes no mention of when the new facility is likely to open…
