Dog owners wait in anticipation as work starts on the runner-up proposal in the Mazarrón Council Budget Participitation Competition

The proposal to install a dog park on the Camposol development came second to a proposal for an exercise area to be added to the football pitch on Sector D of the urbanisation in the Mazarrón Council Budget Participitation Competition, and it is expected that the dog park will be similar to the one opened in Puerto de Mazarrón in October last year.

The original proposal was for the dog park to also be on Sector D but there was no suitable land belonging to the Council with the correct use designation on that sector, so it will be on Sector A between the commercial centre and medical centre. The Council Budget Participitation Competition, which was a citizen participation scheme asking for suggestions for small budget projects, was held in October 2022 and attracted over 100 proposals from around the municipality of Mazarrón.

The initial proposals underwent a technical evaluation and were narrowed down to 36 projects including 2 entered by residents on Camposol. Voting took place in October and was open to anyone owning a property in the municipality.

When the voting closed on November 7, the result was that the 2 Camposol proposals had come first and second, due in no small part to the efforts of the Camposol 2025 group, who had assisted people with the language and voting system. The two Camposol proposals were place “To complete sports facilities on Urbanisation Camposol (Sector D)” and “To create a safe exercise area for dogs in Camposol”.

Work has started on the dog park and the proposal by Mazarrón Councillor for Sport, Francisco García ,to start work on the exercise area was approved by the councils Governing board on March 3: technical staff have already been on the site
