WATCH: Brave Alicante man saves child from horrific balcony fall
The 6-year-old was hanging from a second floor apartment building in the heart of Alicante city
An incredible video shot by a terrified bystander shows the moment an Alicante man selflessly scaled the side of an apartment block to grab a small boy who had managed to climb over a balcony. This act of bravery almost certainly saved the child’s life.
On Monday August 19, time stood still on Calle Orense when a young child, aged just six years old, appeared on the top rail of a second-floor balcony. Onlookers watched in horror as the boy first slipped one leg out, before clamouring over onto the street side of the glass balcony, more than 15 metres above the concrete below.
Several people immediately called the authorities and amidst the desperate cries from the street encouraging the little boy to go back inside, a saviour appeared in the form of a bricklayer who was working on the next apartment block over.
The screams of people from the street alerted the local hero:
“I thought it was a fight and I looked out to see what was happening” he said.

Felipe, a Brazilian man who lives in the Alicante capital, climbed onto the railing from the neighbouring house and shuffled along the narrow ledge until he reached the child. He hooked an arm around him and eventually pulled him over the rail to safety.
Speaking to the regional television channel À Punt, the hero, who received recognition from his family and the National Police, acknowledged the danger he was in but admitted that he had "not thought much about it" because "the most important thing was to save the child."
"The fact that I have a child that age was the definitive impulse to help him," he added.
