Valencian government approves new 10-year contracts for key Costa Blanca bus services

Existing routes will continue but with plans for improved links to Alicante Airport, train stations and Torrevieja Hospital

The Valencian government has approved plans to renew and modernise two of the Costa Blanca’s main intercity bus corridors, including the key Torrevieja-Alicante route.

The move forms part of a wider overhaul of regional bus concessions, with the new contracts set to run for 10 years and valued at almost €68 million.

Although all of these routes already exist, the new concession process will allow services to be reorganised and updated, with the regional government promising improved mobility and better connections between towns across the Valencian Community.

One part of the contract covers the Valencia-Benidorm corridor, including popular coastal destinations such as Dénia, Xàbia, Calpe, Benissa, Gandia and Altea.

The second focuses on the Torrevieja-Alicante route, which serves a large stretch of the southern Costa Blanca including Orihuela Costa, Guardamar, Pilar de la Horadada, Santa Pola, Elche, Rojales, San Miguel de Salinas and surrounding areas.

According to the regional government, the updated network will maintain existing coastal services while improving links to Alicante-Elche Airport, AVE high-speed rail stations and Torrevieja Hospital.

Regional spokesperson Miguel Barrachina said the aim is to provide more stability and improve service quality after years of outdated or expired operating contracts.

The approval now launches the public tender process, after which operators will bid to run the routes under the new long-term agreements.
