The national “ARQUA” underwater archaeology museum in Cartagena is holding an unusual exhibition throughout the spring and most of the summer, illustrating nautical and maritime history through a series of tableaux created using Playmobil figures and constructions.
“Un mar de siglos, Dale una vuelta a la historia con Playmobil” shows the development of Civilization around the Mediterranean in chronological order, beginning in Prehistory and spanning the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages and the 19th century as the timeline develops until the present day. The final tableaux are concerned with the current situation of the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor and the importance of protecting and preserving the marine environment.
Particular importance is also given to the “Mazarrón 2” Phoenician trading vessel, the wreck of which dates back 2,700 years old and was discovered only in the late 20th century.
ARQUA museum opening times are as follows:
Until April 14:
Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 20.00, Sundays and public holidays 10.00 to 15.00
April 15 to October 15:
Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 21.00, Sundays and public holidays 10.00 to 15.00
Admission closes 15 minutes before closing time.
The museum opens on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (April 6 and 7)
