Torrevieja launches bumper Christmas season with almost 40 fun activities
The festive season in Torrevieja is packed full of music, workshops and markets
This week, Torrevieja City Council launched its extensive Christmas programme packed full of dozens of fun and varied activities for all the family.
The Costa Blanca city’s campaign began Wednesday December 13 with the decoration and lighting up of all the shops and businesses in the urban centre and along the beach front. To further promote local spending and kindness to the environment, 30,000 personalised festive recycled bags will be distributed over the coming days, along with giant illuminated shopping bags featuring the slogan ‘Small commerce make Torrevieja big’.
To acknowledge the efforts made by store owners, the 20th Christmas Window Dressing Contest has been launched, with the participation of more than 30 commercial establishments.
40 family fun activities
Beginning on Thursday December 14, an extensive programme with almost 40 “educational, cultural and recreational events for children, adolescents and adults” will be launched and will run until Friday January 5, with the traditional Three Kings Parade.
This is the first time in Torrevieja history such a festive schedule has been arranged and it will cost the city council a total of 60,000 euros.
Schedule of events
December 14: Special performance of the Torrevejense Musical Youth Band Union on the stage of the Plaza de la Constitución at 8.15pm.
December 15: Christmas ‘Carrols in the square’ at 6pm followed by Oriental Dance by Paula Rayma at 8.30pm.
December 16: At 6.45pm, the ‘Motopapanoelada’ will take place, accompanied by the voice of Shani Orminston, to set the mood for the evening. In addition, they will be accompanied by the tourist train.
There will be a total of 400 motorcycles that will collect gifts throughout the city with the aim of delivering them to Social Welfare. The best decorated motorcycle will receive the “Tomás Ballester” award. The bikes will depart from the Shannon cafeteria, at 6pm and will end at the door of the Church of the Immaculate Conception at 6.45pm.
December 17: Craft market in Plaza de Constitución.
December 18, 19 and 20: Variety of activities, children’s workshops and singing games.

December 23 and 24: Father Christmas will take up residence in Santa Clause House in both Torrevieja and La Mata. Children can deliver their lists to the man himself and the little once can expect plenty more “surprises, sweets, entertainment and… SNOW!”
December 23: The traditional Santa Claus Grand Parade will begin at 6pm.
December 26: For the first time ever, a free ice rink will be installed in the Plaza Encarnacion Puchol de La Mata around the giant tree. It will open at 10am until Saturday December 30.
December 27: A morning of activities has been scheduled in Torrevieja and La Mata. At 11.30am, a photo booth and snow canon can be enjoyed in La Mata and at the same time, all the favourite Christmas characters will once again parade through the streets of the city centre. Magician Ortuno will dazzle audiences at 6pm on the main stage, where the Bervera’s concert will begin at 9.30pm.
