ARCHIVED - Find out all the free intercity bus routes that are free in the Murcia Region in 2023
Several long-distance buses are 100% free in the Region as of January 1, 2023
Since September 1, 2022 passengers have been able to buy season tickets on long-distance buses that are part of the State network at a 50% discount. This attractive deal has led to a huge upsurge in the use of public transport, bolstering the Spanish government’s plan to reduce carbon emissions by promoting more sustainable means of transport.
The measure is set to get even better from January 1, as these buses will be completely free for the duration of the year for regular travellers who purchase their season and multi-trip passes in advance.
There are six long-distance routes that will offer a free service originating in the Region of Murcia:
- Murcia - Granada - Seville (with secondary lines connecting with the main route, to Cartagena, Córdoba and Málaga)
- Murcia - Valencia
- Alicante - Murcia
- Murcia - Almeria
- Almeria - Cartagena
- Alicante - Cartagena - Murcia
In total there are 42 intercity bus lines that will offer completely free services from January, and additional companies owned by the State will bring this number up to 79. As well as saving the average family as much as 3,000 euros, the government has indicated that the measure should end up saving more than 350 million litres of petrol and prevent the emission of one million tonnes of CO2 next year.
As well as the buses, travel on the Cercanías and Media Distancia trains will also be free throughout 2023 for frequent travellers.
