article_detailARCHIVED ARTICLE -The Murcia beach competing to be crowned Best In Spain
Condé Nast Traveler magazine has already shortlisted 50 spectacular Spanish coastlines
The Region of Murcia is well-known around the globe for its spectacular coastlines which have won their own string of awards over the years, but this summer it’s the blissful bathers themselves who will decide if Murcia can top the charts with the very best beach in Spain.Beaches across the country are defying the rain and have started preparing for the summer influx of tourists, putting lifeguards on duty, giving their facilities a facelift and putting more bobbies on the beat to keep law & order. Each year, travel and lifestyle magazine Condé Nast Traveler rates the top shorelines and the judges have already shortlisted their favourite 50 in the country which you can vote for now, but readers will have until June 13 to see if Murcia makes the grade. The CN Traveler team of editors make their selections across a variety of different landscapes, facilities and visitor preferences: urban beaches, hidden coves, unspoiled retreats and tourist hotspots which offer a wide range of services and activities for bathers.Interested readers who wish to vote can do so through the official link and all participants will be automatically entered into a draw to win a 300-euro voucher, which can be redeemed against the rental of a Roadsurfer campervan.Previous winners of the best beach in Spain award include Valdevaqueros in Cádiz (2021); San Antonio del Mar in Asturias (2020); and Papagayo in Lanzarote (2019).The Region’s choice
Flying the flag this year for the Region of Murcia is the one and only Cala Cortina in Cartagena, which was just pipped to the post by San Antonia del Mar to land in second place in 2020.Now it has been selected again as one of the favourites for the best beach in Spain 2023 award. The magazine has chosen this 210-metre stretch of coastline for its soft white sand and crystal-clear waters that are nestled in a bay within a protected natural area, but it’s the tiny islet right in front of the strand that makes it truly unique.Joining Cala Cortina on the list of 10 finalists are: Bolonia Beach (Cádiz), Ses Illetes (Formentera), Cofete Beach (Fuerteventura), Oyambre Beach (Comillas), Cala de Aiguablava (Gerona), Playa de la Granadella (Alicante), Playa de Rodas (Pontevedra), Playa de la Concha (San Sebastián) and Playa del Silencio (Cudillero).Images: Archive
