ARCHIVED - The heat returns to Spain this weekend: weather outlook July 1-3
Temperatures will rise and leave summer highs throughout much of Spain
The June heatwave is only just behind us but already weather experts are predicting that this July will be the warmest ever on record. The month has started promisingly, with the first weekend bringing stable weather and slightly cloudy skies to most of Spain, with a general rise in the mercury.
Friday July 1 will be dominated by mostly clear skies with temperatures dipping ever so slightly along the Mediterranean coast, but rising dramatically on the Atlantic shoreline. According to Aemet, there could be some light rain later in the day in the south of the Valencian Community and the Pyrenees.
There is a yellow weather warning in place for strong winds in Andalucía and parts of the Balearic Islands.
Maximum temperatures for Friday:
- Alicante: 30ºC
- Almería: 33ºC
- Málaga: 26ºC
- Murcia: 32ºC
Very stable weather is expected on Saturday July 2, with little cloud in most of the country. An easterly wind will bring high humidity and the heat will begin to intensify, particularly in the north which has experienced several days of rain.
Inland areas will be warmer, with Badajoz reaching 38ºC and Madrid and Zamora hitting highs of 36ºC.
Maximum temperatures for Saturday:
- Alicante: 31ºC
- Almería: 32ºC
- Málaga: 27ºC
- Murcia: 32ºC
Sunday July 3, some instability will hit, brining clouds and drizzle to the north of Galicia and Asturias, which will develop into heavier rain and even some storms in the afternoon. The mercury will drop a little around the Bay of Biscay on Sunday but will increase on the Mediterranean coast, with Lleida and Mallorca on alert for extreme high temperatures exceeding 36ºC.
Maximum temperatures for Sunday:
- Alicante: 29ºC
- Almería: 30ºC
- Málaga: 27ºC
- Murcia: 35ºC
