Home sales in Malaga have shot up, in part thanks to renewed interest in houses located near golf courses

The latest figures show that house prices in the province of Malaga rose by 8% in the last year, in something of a boom for the Costa del Sol property market, while data from the National Institute of Statistics in Spain (INE) record 22% more mortgage loans in Malaga between January and July 2022 than in the same period of 2021.

The resurgence of the Costa del Sol real estate market is visible in both coastal and golf properties, as golf in Spain has undergone something of an increase in popularity recently. The number of golf licences in Spain grew by 13,166 in 2021.

All golfers who are resident in Spain need to obtain a licence from the Royal Spanish Golf Federation each year, and while golfers visiting from overseas don’t need to obtain a licence, they do need to provide a valid handicap certificate from their home club when playing on a Spanish course.
