The Teatro Villa in Archena was originally built in 1963, but after renovation work began on the building in 2003 it closed its doors to the public in 2007.
However, after a long wait of 8 years the theatre finally reopened in February 2015 with a varied program designed to attract all sectors of the public, with children’s shows, musicals, concerts and magic interspersed among the theatrical offerings. The newly remodelled theatre features a 275-square-metre stage and seats an audience of almost 500, with air conditioning and special areas for those of limited mobility. The cost of work on the building reached 1.6 million euros.
The Teatro Villa is located in Calle Virgen de la Salud in the town centre of Archena, next to the Centro Cultural and practically next door to the Palacete de Villarías (home to the esparto grass museum) and the Colegio Miguel Medina.
The theatre box office opens two hours before the start of each event, and tickets in advance can be purchased from Mapeka in Calle Enrique Salas (telephone 968 389255), Candela Ocio and Magos Archena. Advance bookings imply a discount of between 10% and 15%, but in order to avoid possible confusion reservations made by telephone at Mapeka should be placed in the hands of a Spanish speaker! Email contact with Mapeka should be sent to info@mapeka.es.
