ARCHIVED - Summer temperatures herald the end of March: Spain forecast March 27-30
All of Spain is facing a “really unusual” warm spell this week with record high temperatures forecast

The past few days have been marked by warm and sunny weather with practically no rain, except for in the northwest of the country, and the good news is that this summery weather is set to continue this week.
“We could be facing a really unusual situation due to the heat,” the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) pointed out, adding that in the east and south of Spain, as well as in the Canary Islands, daytime temperatures will be between 10 and 15ºC higher than normal for this time of year.
By Wednesday March 29, most of the country will see the mercury land above the 95th percentile, meaning the temperatures will be among the 5% warmest ever recorded for this date.
This week will begin a little overcast on the morning of Monday March 27 but the clouds should clear towards the afternoon. Northern Spain will remain cloudy with some light rain forecast. Daytime temperatures will dip slightly in the Mediterranean area, most notably on the Levante coast but the mercury will continue to rise in the west. Night-time temperatures will drop throughout the country with frost expected in the mountains of the north.
Strong winds are forecast in parts of the Valencian Community and Catalonia while a yellow weather warning for adverse sea conditions is in place for the Balearic Islands.
Moving into Tuesday March 28 and a slightly cloudy start is forecast, giving way to a bright, sunny day mid-morning. There could be some scattered showers in Catalonia and Andalucía has been issued with a yellow alert for rough seas. Daytime temperatures will drop along the Mediterranean coast but will continue to climb elsewhere, with few changes expected on Tuesday night.
The rain will pick up in northern Spain on Wednesday March 29 but elsewhere the day will be clear and warm. The temperatures will ramp up practically everywhere although the Pyrenees could still experience some weak frosts overnight, while a southerly breeze that will be weak in most of the country will feel more blustery in the Balearic Islands.
Temperatures will drop in Galicia and Cantabria on Thursday March 30 while continuing to rise in the Mediterranean and in the Canary Islands, where a Saharan dust storm is expected to spread towards the afternoon. Periods of high clouds are forecast across the country with showers turning into heavier rain in western Galicia later in the day.
In general, the thermometers will easily exceed 30ºC in much of Spain on Thursday, well above the usual temperatures for the last week in March.
