Spanish rail company offers discount shopping to Carrefour customers

Rail operator Renfe has teamed up with supermarket giant Carrefour to offer discount shopping to its customers. From this week, train travellers will be able to build up points which members of the ‘Carrefour Club’ can then exchange for cheaper groceries.

Essentially, rail passengers who are part of the Más Renfe loyalty program continually build up points and the new agreement means that every 15 points is now worth one euro in the supermarket.

“This alliance, pioneering in the sector, will allow El Club Carrefour members to enjoy a new exclusive advantage that will enrich their travel experiences with Renfe,” executive director of Carrefour Spain, Elodie Perthuisot, pointed out.

“We are very proud to have the largest distribution loyalty club in Spain, our priority being to provide added value to our customers and contribute to their purchasing power, and this agreement is a significant step in that direction.”

As well as cheaper shopping, members of the Renfe loyalty scheme can also enjoy a range of benefits including access to its club lounges, free parking at stations and exclusive offers and savings.

General director of Renfe Viajero, Sonia Araujo, also expressed her “excitement” at the joint venture, which enables rail customers "to be able to use their Renfe Points not only on their trips, but also on food, home, toys, electronically, also in any corner of Spain.”

Today (Tuesday October 10) is also the last day of Renfe’s ‘Superprecio’ mega sale. The promotion is available for trips from October 23 until 2024 for travel to hundreds of destinations on thousands of AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed and Intercity trains.
