Spain launches handy new social security app for self-employed and contracted workers
The phone app allows workers in Spain to check their employment history, change contribution base and much more
The Social Security in Spain has launched a handy new mobile phone app this week that allows anyone currently paying into the system check their status and carry out many procedures which were previously only available through the Tesorería General website.
The Importass application was rolled out on Monday September 16 and is available to employees, self-employed workers or autónomos, domestic workers and their employers, as well as artists and students.
Each of these four groups has specific tabs enabled to consult their information and usual procedures.
The software, which is completely free, allows employees to check information such as their work history, contribution base, sick leave entitlement and pension calculations. Certain actions aren’t available yet, like processing the Minimum Vital Income or retirement, but they will be added down the line.
In terms of self-employed workers, the app allows them to modify contribution bases and earnings; update data; communicate the start of new economic activities and the end of others; carry out procedures related to the flat rate, attach additional documentation or consult work history.
The inclusion of a specific tab for domestic workers follows important governmental changes made last week to the labour rights of this large sector. Through the app, households wishing to hire a domestic worker can calculate the amount they need to pay to Social Security, register and deregister the employee, modify their working conditions (salary, hours, etc.) and update data such as address or bank account.
In the section for artists who work for others, the new app allows them to register and deregister in the census, regularise contributions or request to remain registered with Social Security during periods of inactivity.
The new software also makes it easier for interns to consult useful information about their employment situation. Interns who are not paid must have been registered with Social Security since January 1 and they can now consult their employment history and contribution bases through the application.
According to Elma Saiz, Minister of Inclusion, Security and Migration, the initiative is a way of ensuring that young people "become aware of the importance of paying Social Security contributions".
Finally, the app also enables people to carry out procedures such as obtaining a Social Security number, a certificate of being up to date with Social Security obligations, paying outstanding debts, requesting deferrals, split payments or requesting a refund.
