Shot with his own gun? Grisly details emerge of man found dead outside La Manga Club
A shot to the heart, a pistol metres away and unanswered questions: Mystery surrounds the death of a businessman at La Manga Club

The Guardia Civil have released more details about their investigation into the mysterious death of Joaquín M., a businessman from Alcantarilla who was found shot dead outside the La Manga Club golf resort on Friday night, February 28.
Joaquín, who ran a chain of gold-buying and jewellery-pawning establishments, was discovered with a single gunshot wound to the heart. His own firearm was found several metres away from his body, raising numerous questions about the circumstances of his death.
The victim was the manager of Oro D’Italia and had made a name for himself in the gold trading business, at one point operating a dozen establishments across the Region of Murcia. His work involved handling large sums of money and valuable jewellery, making him a target for criminals. Over the years, he had been the victim of multiple robberies, with thieves even breaking into his premises through holes in the walls.
Given the risks associated with his profession, Joaquín had obtained a licence to carry a handgun for personal protection. He was armed on the night of his death, but the location of his pistol – several metres away from his body – has deepened the mystery surrounding the case.
Joaquín’s body was found just after 9pm by security guards patrolling the La Manga Club complex. The resort’s security guards noticed a stationary car with its door open near a roundabout and went to investigate. Upon finding the man motionless inside, they immediately called emergency services. Medical personnel confirmed his death at the scene.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the fatal bullet entered through Joaquín’s heart and exited through his back. However, whether the shot was self-inflicted or fired by another party remains under investigation.
One of the major questions investigators are trying to answer is what Joaquín, who lived in Alcantarilla, was doing outside the La Manga Club on a Friday night. Did he travel there for a business meeting? Was he lured into a trap? Or did he take his own life, as some sources within the Guardia Civil have suggested?
The forensic examination of the weapon found at the scene will be crucial in determining if it was used in the shooting. Investigators are also delving into Joaquín’s personal and professional life to uncover any possible threats or motives that could explain his untimely death.
Joaquín M. leaves behind three children. His body was returned to his family after an autopsy, and a wake was held in Alcantarilla. Meanwhile, the police continue to sift through evidence, piecing together the final moments of a man whose life was marked by both success and danger.
As the investigation continues, the circumstances surrounding Joaquín’s death remain clouded in mystery, with many questions yet to be answered.
