Seven fixed speed radars in the Valencia region were amongst the 50 most lucrative Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) cameras in Spain in terms of generating cash through fines issued in 2020.

The camera with the most speeding fines is located at kilometre 246 on the A-7 through the province of Malaga, which generated 48,771 speeding fines last year.

But it is closely followed, with 47,711 fines – more than 130 per day – by the fixed speed camera located on the AP-7 at kilometre 478, in the province of Valencia.

According to a DGT report, a radar on same stretch of road, at kilometre 390 in Castellón, raised 12,074 fines for speeding.

In the top 10 of the "least respected radars in Spain" is another camera located at kilometre 5 of the V-31 in Valencia, with 30,107 offences recorded in 2020, followed by the fixed controls located at kilometre 960 of the N-340 in the province of Castellón; and kilometre 337 of the A-7 in Valencia. They recorded 18,960 and 15,781 fines respectively and occupy 20th and 24th positions in the ranking.

Two speed cameras located in the province of Alicante have also made it into the DGT's top 50. The first is placed at kilometre 140 on the N-332 in Villajoyosa which registered 14,581 fines during 2020 - almost 40 fines per day and is 27th in the list.

In 35th position is a speed radar on the A-70 near San Juan tunnel, with 13,731 tickets.

However, whilst the figures run into the tens of thousands, the DGT has stressed that "in 2020 the volume of fines issued was lower than in previous years due to the restrictions on mobility caused by the coronavirus pandemic", although they are running a pre-Christmas campaign with over 20,000 speed camera checkpoints to catch and fine dangerous drivers.
