September 30 Mojacar Candle Night 2023
More than 8,000 candles will illuminate the old town of the Andalucía municipality on this magical night

After it had to be cancelled due to bad weather earlier this month, the Almería town of Mojácar is finally celebrating its long-awaited “Night of the Candles 2023” this Saturday September 30.
The “Noche de las Velas” is one of the most special events in the town as, under the light of the stars, the municipality lights up the streets and every corner with thousands of gorgeous, glowing candles.
Mojácar Candle Night has been organised by the Mojácar Town Council and the Mojácar Pueblo Merchants Association, with the collaboration of all those who live in the old town and who turn their lights off to allow the candlelight to be seen in its full glory.
The streets of Mojácar, one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, take on an almost magical quality in the light of the 8,000 candles that are placed along its streets, along with those placed in homes and shop windows by private individuals and a multitude of torches too.
All visitors are asked to come to this event dressed in white as part of a “staging” that complements the careful decoration, carried out in detail throughout the municipality of Mojácar.
As usual, telescopes will be installed at El Mirador del Castillo for lovers of the skies of Mojácar to see the planets, stars and, of course, the full supermoon that are especially visible thanks to the low level of electric lighting.
Free concerts in Mojácar
There will also be several free, open-air concerts taking place on the night, including Antonio Lucas on the piano at the Mariquita la Posá cave; Aitor Gómez, on saxophone in the Plaza Arbolollón square; Ashley Cathcart playing guitar and singing in Plaza del Parterre; Salvador Esteve and Octavio Santos, on violin and piano in the Plaza del Caño and an incredible ‘batucada’ samba drumming show that will tour all the streets of the old town.
All concerts start at 9pm.
How to get to the Mojácar Candle Night
Private acrs will not be allowed to access the town centre during this time, so the organisers recommend that visitors use the bus to get to and from the town. Tickets can be purchased at the booths located in Marina de la Torre, Parque Comercial Montemar, Pueblo Indalo area or on Calle Glorieta street.
The last bus down from the town will be at 2:45am.
