A free Congress event is open to anyone interested in the rich history, culture and heritage of San Javier

San Javier is set to celebrate a major milestone – the 188th anniversary of its Town Hall. To mark this special occasion, the Plenary Hall will host a fascinating Congress on local history, bringing together a talented group of historians, researchers and scholars to share their insights and discoveries.
The mayor, José Miguel Luengo and the Councillor for Culture, David Martínez, will be in charge of inaugurating the Congress at 10am on Saturday September 14, which has been timed to coincide with that all-important day 188 years ago when the constitution of the Town Hall was signed, after its separation from the city of Murcia in 1836.
Throughout the day, the Congress, which has been given the apt name of "San Javier and its surroundings throughout history," will delve into the rich and varied history of the municipality, covering topics such as art, archaeology, architecture and sociology. The event promises to be a treat for anyone interested in uncovering the hidden stories and secrets of this captivating municipality.
The Congress will feature 17 presentations between 10am and 2pm, including a speech by María Griñán Montealegre, the newly appointed Official Chronicler of the Town of San Javier. Her talk, "Art in San Javier de la Marina. The origins of a town in the Modern Age," is sure to be a highlight of the event.
Other topics on the agenda include archaeological discoveries in and around San Javier, with a focus on Roman roads, heritage, documentary sources and the Mar Menor. Also of interest to many will be the discussions on the entrepreneurs who have emerged from the region over the years and their patents for invention from 1931 to 1969.
The event is open to the public, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the speakers and learn more about the fascinating history of San Javier. The Congress is a must-attend for anyone interested in history, culture and the rich heritage of this beautiful area.
