Medical centres, hospital and emergency departments in the San Javier municipality

The main urban nucleus of San Javier has two medical facilities for those needing to see a doctor, one in San Javier and the other in Santiago de la Ribera. There is also a medical "consultorio" in the outlying pedanía of El Mirador.

24 hour emergency cover is available in the San Javier Centro de Salud where there is a SUAP centre. A SUAP (Servicio de Urgencias en Atención Primaria) is a centre designed to take the pressure off the hospitals of the region and offers a 24 hour medical consultancy for emergencies. It must be reiterated that this is for MEDICAL EMERGENCIES ONLY and is not designed as an out of hours doctor service.

It is always advisable to take a translator if requiring medical treatment if you don´t speak Spanish, as although many medical personnel do speak some English, this is not guaranteed.

The new Hospital Los Arcos del Mar Menor is also located within the San Javier municipality, providing a full hospital service for the Mar Menor area, along with 24 hour accident and emergency department.
