Orihuela Costa Rucksack Burglar strikes again
The stealthy thief has been targeting homes in the Playa Flamenca region for more than a year

The notorious ‘Rucksack Burglar’ has struck again, leaving residents of the coastal district of Playa Flamenca in a state of panic and questioning the effectiveness of local law enforcement. Despite an ongoing manhunt, the elusive criminal has managed to execute two more break-ins within the same urbanisation this month alone, raising serious concerns about the ability of the Guardia Civil to protect the community.
On February 14, the burglar invaded a young woman’s home, breaking her window, cutting through the mosquito screen and stealing cash and an iPad through the opened window. The brazen nature of the attack has left residents feeling violated and angry, with many questioning how the burglar was able to carry out such a bold act without being caught.
And on Monday February 26, another resident was awoken just after 2.30am by the sound of their alarm system, triggered by the burglar’s attempt to scout his house for valuables. Armed and ready to confront the intruder, the homeowner rushed outside only to see the burglar fleeing the scene upon realising the alarm had been activated. Once again, the ‘Rucksack Burglar’ managed to escape unidentified.
These recent incidents have only added to the growing frustration and unease among Playa Flamenca residents, who feel increasingly vulnerable and neglected by the very authorities tasked with protecting them. Local residents have repeatedly alerted the Guardia Civil to the presence of a burglar in their neighbourhood, providing clear images and footage that should aid in identifying the culprit. However, despite these efforts, the police have failed to take meaningful action against the burglar for more than a year.
The lack of progress in the case has sparked mounting speculation and concern regarding the competence or integrity of the local police force, explained Facebook group ‘Crime Watch Orihuela Costa’.
The situation in Playa Flamenca has reached a critical point, the group added, with the community feeling increasingly vulnerable and neglected.
In the meantime, the ‘Rucksack Burglar’ continues to haunt the residents of Playa Flamenca.
“The residents of Playa Flamenca deserve answers and, more importantly, effective measures to ensure their safety and peace of mind. The time for excuses has passed; it is now imperative for the police to demonstrate their commitment to justice and the well-being of the community by apprehending the ‘Rucksack Burglar’ and restoring trust in local law enforcement,” Crime Watch Orihuela Costa concluded.
