ARCHIVED - New signposted botanical route at Montgo Natural Park in Denia

Montgo park in the Marina Alta, Alicante province, is home to more than 700 species of wild flora.

A new signposted botanical route has been installed at Montgo Natural Park, located between Denia and Javea, along a kilometre of the Camino de les Colonies which is home to endemic, rare and endangered species.

The route includes an initial interpretative panel, which introduces visitors to the park and the trail itself, as well as a further 35 individual boards with QR code that refers visitors to a website which details the botanical richness of the natural park, and the characteristics of the 700 different floral species.

Along the route, the Mediterranean species are presented in four groups: forest, rock, scrub, and crops, offering a fantastic opportunity to find out more about some of the more common varieties while discovering some of Montgo's botanical jewels.

The area, surrounding the Montgo mountain which reaches a height of 753 metres above sea level and rises above Denia, Javea and Ondara, was declared a 'Natural Park' by the Valencian regional government in May 1987.

As well as an abundance of flora, the park is also the perfect location to spot a variety of bird species, including Bonelli eagles, Eurasian Eagle Owls and Peregrine Falcons amongst others.
