The San Javier leisure area should be ready for visitors by the end of the year
The long-awaited Sports Park in San Javier, in the north of La Manga del Mar Menor, should be ready by the end of December, the council confirmed on a visit to the unrecognisable site this week. The new park, which includes a playground and calisthenics work-out area, has been built on 15,000 square metres of previously unused scrub land next to the Canal del Estacio.
Mayor José Miguel Luengo said that the Sports Park is “a very important infrastructure for La Manga that responds to a demand from the neighbours and that fulfils a commitment of the Government team to continue generating free spaces and sports facilities for the use of both residents as visitors.”
The Sports Park, the mayor added, “will significantly change this important area of La Manga that will have a soccer field, stands, changing rooms, a meeting room, a tennis court, athletics, a basketball court and a climbing wall, calisthenics, and paths for pedestrians and cyclists.”
The project falls under the ‘La Manga 365’ initiative and cost a total of 1,194,568 euros, 80% of which was financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This is just one of the developments being carried out within the framework, along with other projects such as a new car park on the La Manga strip.
