The Valencian chain has opened a store in Cartagena with plans for a second and refurbished a third in Murcia city

<span style='color:#780948'>ARCHIVED</span> - New Consum supermarket openings in the Region of Murcia

Valencian cooperative Consum has consolidated its presence and investment in the Region of Murcia with the opening of two new supermarkets in Cartagena and the refurbishment of a third in Murcia city.

The first of the new stores is already up and running, having opened its doors on March 9. In a 'Charter franchise' format, the store is located in a petrol station between Avenida José Luis Meseguer and Carretera de Cartagena.

The store has a surface area of 240 m2 and is open from 6.30am to 10.30pm from Monday to Sunday, including public holidays.

A second new Consum store in Cartagena is in the pipeline and scheduled to open "in the middle of 2023", although there is still no official opening date. In this case, it will be located on Avenida Juan Carlos I with a surface area of 1,400 square metres.

The new establishments will be joined by the reopening of a store on Ronda de Levante in Murcia at the end of the month having been closed since the beginning of the year for complete refurbishment.

In addition to the openings, Consum is currently redoubling its commitment to logistics in the Region with an investment of 50 million euros to extend its centre in Las Torres de Cotillas.

This will allow the cooperative to more than double its current capacity, which will enable it "to strengthen its distribution and accommodate the expansion in south-east Spain planned for the next 10 years".

This project, which is already 70% complete, is expected to be finished in September 2024.

Meanwhile, Consum is preparing its summer campaign, offering 3,100 jobs in 460 shops - 300 positions at 47 stores in the Region - to reinforce its workforce over the busy season.
