ARCHIVED - Murcia offers grants to trade in old cars for newer, eco-friendly models
1,000-2,500 euros in grants are available for those wanting to get a more sustainable vehicle under Murcia’s ‘Renove’ programme

The Region of Murcia has launched a new initiative to replace vehicles currently in circulation with more efficient and less polluting ones. The plan, named ‘Renove’, will provide grants of between 1,000 and 2,500 euros to car owners who want to trade in their vehicle for a newer model.
This will come as welcome news for people in Spain who want a new car as the price of owning a new vehicle is set to go up in the near future.
Those interested in getting a new car subsidised by the regional government should act fast as the deadline for applying is on November 5 2021. The programme is targeted towards self-employed workers, companies and private individuals in Murcia who scrap their old car and purchase a pre-owned, demo or zero-kilometre vehicle instead.
The region has a total budget of 200,000 euros for this programme, which will be handed out in strict first-come, first-served order. The amount of money available to each person will vary between 1,000 and 2,500 euros, depending on the type of car they are going to buy and on the old car that is to be scrapped. Higher grants will be given for those who buy more efficient vehicles with lower emissions, as well as for the scrapping of the oldest, most polluting vehicles.
Some motorists may feel that this is worth it for the sake of the environment, even if the cost of charging an electric car is becoming more expensive in Spain.
Specifically, the type of vehicle that can be purchased includes M1 passenger cars that are no more than five years old and N1 vans or light lorries in the zero-emissions categories ‘ECO’ or ‘C’ that are no more than three years old. The old vehicles that drivers hand in to be scrapped must have internal combustion engines that run exclusively on petrol or diesel, and be more than ten years old if it’s a passenger car and more than seven years old for vans.
If you’re interested in getting financial help to trade in your old car for a newer, less polluting model, go to the ‘sede electrónica’ section of the CARM.es website and complete form 3575 online.
